Rated Excellent on Rated PeopleKitchens and bathrooms in Berkley
Berkley is a small parish on the north-east edge of Frome, made up of the village itself and hamlets such as Oldford, Berkley Marsh and Standerwick. The housing is a scattered mix: a listed 18th-century country house and church, farmhouses, older stone cottages and 20th-century homes filled in between. Many of the older homes have been extended over the years, so a single house can have thick stone walls in one room and thin modern ones next door. A kitchen fitter or bathroom fitter has to read each part separately.
Fixed & Fitted is based in Frome, so Berkley is right on our doorstep. One skilled tradesperson handles the plumbing, electrics, tiling and carpentry, which suits houses where one change tends to knock on to another. A new shower room might need a wall rebuilt, a socket moved and a floor levelled, and it helps to have one person planning all three. Photos of the room on WhatsApp, plus which hamlet you are in, are all we need to put together a free, no-obligation quote.

Kitchen Fitter in Berkley
Berkley farmhouses have often grown by extension, so a kitchen can run from thick stone into a thin modern wall. Units, fixings and worktop joints are chosen for each stretch of wall, and we read the room before drawing the layout.
Kitchen Fitting details - 2
Bathroom Fitter in Berkley
A Berkley bathroom may sit in the old stone part of the house or in a later extension, and the two behave differently. We settle the waste route and the wall build-up for your particular room, then fit the suite and finish the details.

Wet Rooms & Showers in Berkley
Some Berkley homes drain to a septic tank or treatment plant, so adding a shower room puts more load on a system built for a set number of people. Check its capacity with whoever services it first. Tanking, tray and drain follow once that is settled.

Tiler in Berkley
Tiling across a Berkley farmhouse and its extension means two different backgrounds. Stone wants levelling and a sound base, while newer plasterboard needs sealing and the right adhesive. We tie them together with straight tile lines and a movement joint where old meets new.

Plumber in Berkley
From Oldford to Standerwick, Berkley plumbing varies house to house: old supply pipe in a farmhouse, newer plastic in infill homes, sometimes a septic tank at the end of the waste. We trace what you have, then fix, move or add taps, basins and appliance connections.

Electrician in Berkley
Berkley houses with a working chimney or wood stove need thought before an extractor fan goes in, as the fan and the flue can fight over air. We plan fan positions and the wiring together, and add RCD protection to kitchen and bathroom circuits.

Carpenter & Joiner in Berkley
Extensions on Berkley houses can leave odd steps, boxed-in beams and doors that no longer close. We make good with stud walls, new frames, hung doors and fitted shelving, scribed against stone where it is uneven and set square where the wall is modern.

Floor Fitter in Berkley
A walk through a Berkley farmhouse can cross old stone, timber boards and a modern screed. We take levels at each change, deal with damp or movement underneath, and lay a floor that meets neatly at every threshold.

Home Renovation in Berkley
Renovating a Berkley farmhouse or cottage usually spreads from one room into the next. We sequence it: strip out, first fix plumbing and electrics, plaster, tile, then fit and finish, with one person across every stage so nothing is repeated or missed.

Local knowledge
Kitchens & bathrooms in Berkley: what to know
Listed buildings in the parish
Berkley House and the Church of St Mary are both listed, and other older properties in the parish may be too. Listed status can affect internal changes as well as outside work. Check your own home’s listing with the council, and mention it when you message so we can allow for it.
Extended farmhouses and mixed construction
Homes here have often grown by additions, such as a stone farmhouse with a 1970s extension or a cottage with a flat-roofed kitchen at the back. Different walls, floors and ceilings behave differently, so tiling, levelling and fixings change from room to room. We check each area on its own before settling on materials.
Chimneys, stoves and extractor fans
Many older houses still have a working chimney or a wood-burning stove. An extractor fan in a kitchen or bathroom can compete with a flue for air, so ventilation needs thought. We plan fan positions and air supply with the stove in mind, and suggest you check the flue arrangements with whoever installed or maintains it.

Questions
Berkley FAQs
Do you cover the Berkley hamlets such as Oldford, Berkley Marsh and Standerwick?
Yes, we cover the whole Berkley area, including Oldford, Berkley Marsh and Standerwick, as well as nearby Beckington, Lullington and Frome itself. Homes vary from farmhouses to newer infill, so we look at each one separately. Send photos on WhatsApp for a free, no-obligation quote.
My Berkley house is on a septic tank or treatment plant. Can I still add a shower room?
Possibly, but check the system first. These systems are designed around the number of people in the house, and an extra bathroom can push them past it. Find out the age and capacity of the system and who owns it, and ask the owner or installer before work starts. Treatment plants also need power, which we factor into the electrics.
Can you tile across the old and new parts of an extended farmhouse?
Yes. The old stone walls and the newer extension walls need different preparation, so we deal with each surface on its own terms, then tie them together with a consistent finish. Floors may sit at different levels too. A few photos on WhatsApp are a good starting point for a free quote.
